Speaker Bios
Joan Curry - Joan is the Chair of the Public Sector
Committee and a member of the Council of Chartered Accountants Ireland. She is
also a Board Member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). She
is currently Finance Officer for the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport,
having previously held positions in the Public Service Pay Commission, the
National Shared Services Office and the Department of Public Expenditure and
Reform.
Professor Niamh Brennan - Niamh is Michael MacCormac
Professor of Management at University College Dublin and Founder/Academic
Director of the UCD Centre for Corporate Governance. A first-class honours,
first-in-class UCD Science (Microbiology and Biochemistry) graduate, she
qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG, holds a PhD from the University
of Warwick and is a Chartered Director of the Institute of Directors (London).
Niamh was elected to the Royal Irish Academy, Ireland's highest academic honour,
the first business school academic to be so recognised.
John Darby BCL - is a Senior Legal Counsel with PM Group. He
has been practising as a solicitor in Ireland since 1997 and is a member of the
Law Society of Ireland. He qualified and practised for ten (10) years in leading
Irish law firm, McCann FitzGerald. John has also practised in-house with Diageo
plc, Bord Gais Eireann and the Coca-Cola Company. John's main areas of practise
are corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate
governance. He has advised numerous domestic and international clients in a wide
variety of business sectors, including project management, media, motor
distribution, telecommunications and food and agri. John is also a frequent
speaker in the areas of corporate and company law and is a lecturer on the Law
Society's Professional Course on Business Law and its Diploma Courses on Company
Law and Corporate Governance.
Dr Jonny Bloomfield - Jonny is a Behavioural Health &
Performance Coach specialising in stress management, sleep, exercise &
nutrition. His background is in Sports Science, gaining a PhD from the
University of Hull and beginning his career as a Fitness Coach at Ulster Rugby
and then as a Sports Physiologist at the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland.
He then became the Sports Scientist for England Rugby and a Physical Performance
Consultant to a number of Teams in the Premier League in the areas of fitness,
recovery and sleep. Since 2015, he has been providing coaching solutions to
Organisations that seek to enhance their staff health & wellbeing, such as
at GRAHAM Construction, helping them to reduce their absenteeism by 100%,
increase participation in wellbeing activities by 50%, reduce staff turnover by
33% compared to construction industry average and improve staff overall
engagement by 15%, helping them to win the inaugural Investors in People Award
for Excellence in Health & Wellbeing in 2018 and again in 2021.
Eavan Crehan - Eavan is a Corporate Finance Director with
NewERA. She has over 10 years’ experience of providing financial advice to
Government in relation to its shareholdings in the commercial State companies,
and she led the team that developed the Climate Action Framework for the sector.
Prior to joining NewERA she worked in infrastructure finance with the National
Development Finance Agency and in the banking sector.
J P Corkery - J P is Senior Manager - Sustainable Finance
with NewERA. A Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, he leads NewERA’s
sustainable finance work and other climate-related activities. He provides
financial advice to Government Departments related to climate action, including
renewable energy, energy efficiency and nature-based solutions and has worked on
a number of developments in these areas.
Alan Ryan - Alan has worked in SEAI for 17 years. He is
currently the Public Sector programme manager in SEAI. He works with senior
managers and energy managers in the public sector achieve national energy
targets. He developed the national Monitoring and Reporting system which tracks
public bodies annual performance. Prior to managing the Public Sector Programme
he also managed the SME and LIEN programmes in SEAI.
Alan was involved in
developing the Irish (IS393), European (EN 16001) and International (ISO 50001)
energy management standards. He was responsible for developing SEAIs Energy MAP
training programme, and helped develop the National Energy Services Framework
and EPC supports and documentation.
Alan is a Domain Coordinator on the
Concerted Action Energy Efficiency Directive initiative, which aims to share
good practices of the implementation of the EED amongst policy makers and energy
agencies in Member States. Prior to SEAI Alan worked for 8 years as a facility
manager in the electronics and pharmaceutical industries.
